In 1925, Georgia established a state poet laureate position, which is currently held by Judson Mitcham, who was appointed in 2012. Mitcham is the author of several poetry collections, including A Little Salvation: Poems Old and New (University of Georgia Press, 2007).
In 2016, Hank Stewart was named poet laureate of Atlanta, Georgia.
