Today the National Book Foundation announced its longlist in poetry. The ten contenders for the award include this year’s James Laughlin Award winner A Several World (Nightboat Books) by Brian Blanchfield, as well as Gabriel: A Poem (Alfred A. Knopf) by Edward Hirsch and Citizen: An American Lyric (Graywolf Press) by Claudia Rankine, who along with Hirsch currently serves on our Board of Chancellors. To read about these three poets, as well as poems from their nominated books, take a look at our 2014 National Book Award Contenders collection.

Books by previous Chancellors Mark Strand and Louise Glück also made the list. Visit the National Book Foundation for the full list.
