Stacey Lynn Brown

Stacey Lynn Brown was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. She received a BA from Emory University in 1992 and an MFA from the University of Oregon in 1996. She is the author of the book-length poem Cradle Song (C&R Press, 2009), and she has received awards and fellowships from The Poetry Center of Chicago and Southern Oregon State University, among others. Brown currently teaches at Indiana University in Bloomington, where she lives with her husband, the poet Adrian Matejka, and their daughter.

Knock-kneed, bucktoothed,
I stand with a small golf bag slung

over my shoulder, my 96
ROCK hat pulled low, shielding

the bright Florida sun.
I am seven, out with my dad

chasing this small white
ball up and down the fairway

while he hits mulligans, calibrates
