Flushing Town Hall Teaching Artist April Armstrong will present an exploration into how Jazz and Poetry have come together, past and present, to create a unique medium. Participants will hear samples from prominent artists such as The Last Poets, Gil Scott Heron, Amiri Baraka, Marvin Bell, Jack Kerouac, Mina Loy, Kenneth Rexroth, and Sonia Sanchez. The program will help participants understand differences between jazz genres. Participants will also be invited to create an original piece.
