#PoetryNearYou Pick of the Week: You Can Get There From Here: Poetry & Dance

Beyond Baroque in Los Angeles, California will present a groundbreaking performance that features individual dancers interpreting the poetry of Los Angeles on Saturday, January 12, 2019, 8 p.m. A collaboration between dancer/choreographer Liz Hoefner Adams and poet Laurel Ann Bogen, “You Can Get There From” Here features over twenty-five dancers and voice performers jointly reimagining some of the city's most significant poems. Individual poems are reinterpreted in a dance performance that reifies metaphor into movement.
 
The featured poems are drawn largely from Beyond Baroque's 2015 anthology Wide Awake: Poets of Los Angeles and Beyond, and include work by William Archila, Linda Albertano, Dorothy Barresi, Laurel Ann Bogen, Marie Chambers, Wanda Coleman, Brendan Constantine, Marsha De La O, Alexis Rhone Fancher, Sesshu Foster, Dana Gioa, Timothy Green, S. A. Griffin, Eloise Klein Healy, Dave Hernandez, Ron Koertge, Suzanne Lummis, Bill Mohr, Keith Niles, Wendy C. Ortiz, Cece Peri, Naomi Quinonez, Mehnaz Sahibzada, Austin Straus, Lynne Thompson, Scott Wannberg, Charles Harper Webb, Terry Wolverton, and Gail Wronsky.
 
Featured dancers and choreographers include Kyreeana Alexander, Anthony Angellano, Cheryl Banks Smit, Jonathan Bryant, Norianna Galindo-Ramirez, Sinnamon Hauser, Israel Henry, Vannia Ibarguen, Jessica Kondrath, Jennifer La Curan, Sarah Leddy, Maggie Lee LaPorte, Anya Liffey, Brady Lopez, Carol McDowell, Danae McWatt, John Pennington, Kianna Peppers, Paula Present, Naomi Quinonez, Deborah Rosen, Karen Safrit, Robbie Shaw, Edwin Siguenza, and Tzong-Han Wu.
