Annie Charlotte Dalton

Annie Charlotte Armitage Dalton was born in 1865 in Birkby, Huddersfield, England. After immigrating to Canada in 1904, she published many books of poetry, including The Silent Zone (The Ryerson Press, 1926). In 1935, she became the first woman poet to be awarded Canada’s Member of the Order of the British Empire. She died in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1938.
