Governors and mayors from states and cities across the country, at the request of poetry lovers and advocates, have issued official proclamations in support of National Poetry Month. Proclamations have been received from Chicago, Connecticut, Los Angeles, New York City, Oklahoma, Seattle, Tucson, Washington, D.C., and more!

Anyone can ask his or her governor or mayor for a proclamation in support of National Poetry Month. Simply write a letter with your request and enclose a sample proclamation. If you receive a proclamation, make sure to alert your local newspapers and radio stations, and if possible display the proclamation at a poetry reading or other event in April. Don't forget to let the Academy know so that we can include your proclamation in our gallery below.
